Amy Heldt

Associate Attorney
Katherine Sharkey, Family Law Attorney

Amy Heldt focuses her practice on family law, helping clients navigate divorce, child custody, parenting time, child support, spousal support, paternity, and other domestic relations matters. She understands that family law disputes often arise during some of life’s most difficult transitions and believes clients deserve an attorney who is both a strong advocate and a compassionate guide. Amy is committed to providing thoughtful counsel, clear communication, and practical solutions tailored to each client’s unique needs.

Amy’s path to becoming an attorney began years before law school. She first worked as a legal assistant and paralegal, where she gained firsthand experience working closely with attorneys and clients while developing a strong understanding of the legal process. During law school, she further broadened her legal experience as a law clerk in immigration law, criminal defense, and family law. These experiences strengthened her legal research, writing, and analytical skills while exposing her to a wide range of legal issues and client needs.

After earning her Juris Doctor and becoming licensed to practice law in Michigan, Amy gained experience practicing personal injury law before returning to the area of law she found most rewarding, family law. As the child of divorced parents, she understands firsthand that family transitions can have lasting effects and appreciates the importance of helping clients navigate those challenges with compassion, stability, and practical guidance. For Amy, family law provides an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives by helping them navigate difficult transitions with clarity, compassion, and confidence. Her varied legal background allows her to approach each case with a thoughtful perspective and an appreciation that every client’s circumstances are unique.

Amy believes that effective family law representation begins with listening. She takes the time to understand each client’s unique circumstances, provide honest and practical guidance, and advocate for solutions that protect what matters most to them and their families. By building trusting relationships and maintaining open communication, she strives to help clients navigate difficult transitions with confidence and peace of mind.

Amy earned her undergraduate degree, cum laude, in Law and Social Thought from the University of Toledo, where she developed an early interest in the legal system and its impact on individuals and families. She went on to earn her Juris Doctor from the University of Toledo College of Law and is licensed to practice law in the State of Michigan.
